Call it paws for a cause. Peking’s pooches powered through the city’s streets on Sunday for a pub crawl with a doggone good mission: The Library Project.
Dozens of dogs had some 40 humans in tow for beverages at XL Bar & Restaurant (mulled wine), Jing-A (beer) and Paddy O’Shea’s (hot cider). The day included a ‘ruff-le’ at each stop with prizes like hoodies, T-shirts and beanies from the pubs and CHEERS wine, Hulu restaurant gift certificates and Jia Rui cheese. The dogs spent the day munching treats courtesy of Penny’s Food Studio.
Dog Pub Crawl 3 raised 4,300 rmb via pre-paid entry fees plus 1550 rmb from ticket sales and donations during the event for a total of 5850 rmb / 58,500 mao. That’s a Dog Pub Crawl record, which is great, but just as important were the good vibes and delighted dogs all day long.
100 percent of the money is already in Library Project’s hands and, along with revenue from other Maovember events, will be used to provide books, chairs, tables, teacher training and more at a rural Hebei school. We’ll update when that reading room is ready to go.
Thanks to all involved — the pubs, ruff-le prize donors, and participants and dogs who made it possible.
