Maovember is a month-long campaign that mixes quirky events and good causes. The idea is a spin on ‘mao’, a coin worth one tenth of a yuan or 1.5 cents, and Movember, a global health mission where men grow mustaches. The idea is small donations can yield big results.

Maovember focuses on giving 100 percent of the funds from its events to a good cause, with any admin expenses covered by our volunteers. Most funds are sent directly from the donor directly to our partners, such as The Library Project, using a dedicated QR code, thus making things as transparent as possible.

Maovember also focuses on using the funds for visible results. Past campaigns have funded everything from a delivery vehicle for Bread of Life, a bakery employing those with brittle bone disease, to reading rooms in Hebei, Yunnan, Shanxi and elsewhere in rural China through The Library Project.

Maovember typically raises funds through fun events, everything from beer pong, corn toss and poker tournaments to quizzes, art auctions and wine tastings to walk-a-thons, pub crawls and open mic nights.
